| Synopsis
Rather than taking the more usual 'equipment list' approach, this module takes the 'needs' approach, i.e. "what does a studio need to be able to do?" Knowing the true functions of a recording facility means that you are already half-way towards understanding the nature of the equipment needed to service those functions. There are many different types of recording facilities, from a computer or digital multitrack at home to professional music recording studios. All recording set-ups must satisfy ten basic requirements, all of which must be met if the facility is to achieve its purpose without making life difficult for the engineer, owner and talent. The overview provided by this module will help you understand the logic and structure underlying every studio, whether it is on your desktop or in purpose-built premises.
