| Synopsis
The multitrack recording device is the heart of a sound production facility, whether in your room at home or in a purpose-built studio. The main requirement of a multitrack is to capture individual sounds, store them separately in a high-quality format and replay them in synchronization during the mixdown stage. Once only achievable by using a professional analogue 24-track recorder, multitracking requirements are now met by a large range of mainly digital devices to suit all budgets. Older style analogue devices are also discussed here, because many professional engineers still use them by choice. And of course, many project studios buy pre-loved analogue machines simply for economic reasons! This module introduces you to the types of devices available for multitrack sound production.
