The
Audio Engineering and Studio Technology Program provides students
with an intensive, comprehensive and well-rounded education in fundamental
areas of audio. The program covers analog recording, digital recording,
computerized music, sound for video, film, and multimedia, the audio
engineer's role, and studio maintenance. The Audio Engineering curriculum
provides extensive hands-on experience that is needed in order to
feel comfortable in a studio environment post graduation. Students'
exposure over an extended period of time to Dallas Sound Lab's faculty
and facility, industry guests and studio operations prepares them
to enter an audio-related career. Class hours are spent in preparation
for success before and after graduation. General areas of study
include basic applications of computers, communication skills and
preparation for the job market. Dallas Sound Lab's Career Placement
Assistance Department helps students in their efforts to arrange
post-graduate internships in the field of audio. |

Seattle |
This
8-week program is a series of seminars and "hands-on" workshops
focusing on todayšs studio recording techniques and procedures,
terminology and equipment. Designed primarily for musicians, artists
and sound engineers, PARC has also been popular with audiophiles,
DJs and just about anyone interested in sound production and recording.
This course is taught in Mirror Sound Studiošs 24 track Shoreline
recording facility. First offered in 1984, a unique feature of PARC
is the small class size (strategically limited to 6 students per
class), giving each student maximum "Hands-On Training" potential.
Using the equipment yourself and learning to make audio judgments
with your own ears is the best experience you get when youšre a
beginner. |

Audio
Production lectures over three semesters culminating in project
in third semester. This lecture course introduces principles of
sound recording, such as acoustics, microphones, analog and digital
recording, signal processing, MIDI and synchronization. Students
spend three Saturdays learning the basics of ProTools in a computer
lab setting. They then see how the concepts learned in the first
term are used in a professional studio setting. Studio demonstrations
include overdub/mixing, equalization, effects processing, compression/limiting
and expansion and phase coherency. |
